| Here I am, |
[Apr. 17th, 2008|11:50 am] |
I have lodging and internet. I do not (yet) have a roommate, but I'm sure this will change. In 2 hours I get to go check in, and I'm already tracking that I'm missing a piece of paper which, I'm sure, will be the absolute end of the world and I'll have to go hang myself in shame. Or not, as the case may be.
Anyway, Fort Leonard Wood is, well, Fort Leonard Wood. The PX is overrun with stupid privates and their families, I guess today is a Basic Training graduation or something. Saw a couple of them Living The Stereotype:
"I just graduated Basic Training, and I cleaned out the PX's Electronics Department on my nifty STAR Card."
Money Management, Yur Doin' it Rong.
I need to buy an electric water heater and a pack of hangers. While the Lodging does provide a coffee pot and some inexpensive coffee, my Beloved had me pack the French Press and some Expensive Coffee (Ethiopian Harar, if you're coffee snob enough to know what that means). I've got a microwave, but the water heater will be more convenient. |

You're up at the NCOA barracks, which building #? 323_?
Today would be a family day, tomorrow will be graduation, and won't be so packed as they'll be leaving. But in general stay away from there on the weekends. Doubly so if you're going to get your hair cut, either do it Friday, or wait till Monday.

You're too motivated coming here with a fresh haircut! This is FLW!
You kids have it so easy nowdays.
You saw my comic on dumb privates spending money, right?
Oh my!!! Just what we need, another mustang going around post!!!
I see you haven't been following PPTRanger.
www.pptranger.blogspot.com
I've been keeping up with it. It's just that also stereotypically every new Private seems to be buying a mustang. Here at FLW I'd venture to say that probably 1/5 "new/late model car" is a mustang.
I was going to suggest an esbit or coleman stove, but I'm sure someone would get upset about you sitting outside boiling up water.
Benghazi burners are quite handy though.
Wish I'd known, I've got an electric kettle I could send you. Or not, as it's probably not what you want, but anywho.
I think that's what he's going to end up with. The press makes the *best* coffee...mmmmm.
BTW, John, I DO expect to get that back from you. It's *my* combat coffee pot, dammit.
John / Jen - if you can't find one at the PX, just order one of these from Target online and have it by Wednesday, latest....or walk into a Target and have *now* ;-)
ft leonard wood. known to the ages as ft lost-in-the-woods. for a good reason...

Okay... I've sitting on pins 'n needles. Did the lost paperwork get him sent home?
That's the only part of this Army stuff I can relate to.
Not that we know of yet. He probably won't check in for a while yet, since he's doing inprocessing today. He's already contacted his unit to get it scanned and sent to him. :-)

Must be TRU LUV.
You got the really good stuff.
(To continue coffee snobbishness, I blend Harrar and Guatemalan Estate. Might give it a try when you can.)
Good coffee makes life so much more pleasant.
Seriously, you need anything out there in the woods? | |
